Six Sandal trends that will keep you on your feet in 2021!
Sandals are the icing on the sartorial spring-summer fashion cake. These sweet things complete our garments, keep our feet cute and put a smile on our faces. Also, not to forget, after treating our feet to a year of the bathroom-slipper, our toes are ready to rejoin society.
Lucky for us, designers took our comfy considerations into account when thinking up new shoe styles for 2021 and presented trends like extra cushioned soles and soft footbeds to ensure a smooth transition from lounging around the house to an out-and-about Saturday.
From New York to London, Milan, and Paris, the newly socially distanced runway shows offered us whimsical escapes into the future. Given the wanderlust for the great outdoors, the shoe trends on the runway followed suit. New and some old sandal trends reigned supreme. Ahead, shop six trending spring sandal styles that are made for a blissful, sunny season of safe fun.
1. Slider Sandals
Sandals of your childhood are back, and stronger than ever. Comfort reigns supreme with these Birkenstock style sandals on runways but with elevated colors and materials. The classic sandal is kind of chunkier now, but that look is proving to be all the rage in 2021. From shearling-lined pairs to neon and patterned alternatives), it looks like you can justify buying multiple pairs of sandals right now.
2. Decorated in Nature
Lockdown had many of us rethinking our relationship with nature. While we craved to be out and about on green grassy fields, designers noticed all of that and came up with sandal styles to bring us closer to that feeling. Shoes on the Spring/Summer 2021 runways became natural-fantasy launch pads with styles inspired by flora and fauna. From lavender heeled sandals at Jeffrey Campbell to floral rhinestone accents, these sandals are giving us major ’90s prom but-on-a countryside kind of energy.
3. Neon Sandals
Calling your attention (literally) are the Neon sandal trends of Spring/Summer 2021. Runways were often punctuated with bright pops of color complementing pared-down looks. Inspired by '80s neons, designers gave us nostalgia for the last big era of carefree excess in a more fun way for next season.

The heel height of the moment is the platform sandal heel. Expect to see platforms everywhere this spring. These good old comfy sandals are having a resurgence this year, and no, these are not just for camping. The right platforms can make your old clothes look modern. Gone are the days when platforms were mere grocery-shopping shoes. Those opposed to sticking anything in their toes will be pleased with the selection of the slip-on platform heel silhouette.
5. Woven Sandals
We're seeing a lot of woven jute, leather and handcrafted macramé on runways for Spring/Summer 2021. Design houses are even weaving materials like cotton twill and rope in perfect Spring look fantasies for us to look forward to. The woven sandal is like going back to the OG heritage handicraft while offering us a perfect summery vibe.
6. Puffy Sandals
It’s all about the puff this year. Be it tops, dresses, bags or shoes. While puffy bags had their moment in 2020, the trend has taken over footwear in 2021. Think cushioned little pillows on your feet that feel as good as they look. Can you really think of a better sandal substitute for my well-worn 2020 slippers?
It feels like 2021 is going to be the year that everyone packs up their sneakers and slippers, and dives into sandals head (Feet?) first. All the Sandal trends this season are too chic to ignore.
