trending leggings

No, you haven’t entered a time machine and found yourself back in the early 2000s; leggings are back. Leggings are a forever staple. Being inarguably the most comfortable and flexible bottoms, one can simply not have enough of them. Good for us, there are tons of new styles on the rise this year, that stand to rival those plain-jane skinny leggings we all know (and nevertheless, love). Even though basic leggings are a closet staple, they’re starting to feel boring and repetitive in comparison with all the new legging trends springing up to take their place. No matter if you're someone who wears them exclusively for workouts or exclusively for lounging (or a mix of both), this still applies to you.

Don’t worry, the good old leggings are still the same, no crazy upgrades, but sometimes even the smallest of details can make all the difference. Trends like – a shrunken hemline, a flared-out leg, an updated waistline, or a solid black neutral color, are some of the many emerging legging trends, as the world has started to enjoy living in them (quite practically!). Each of the below five legging trends has one small tweak that makes it a bit more exciting to wear. Fashion girls have been all over them, too, which tells me that we're only going to see more of them.

After Beyoncé, Kylie Jenner, and Adele were spotted in the (now popular) half-moon print leggings, interesting styles of leggings started popping up everywhere. Printed leggings, which come in a variety of colors, are on the rise of loungewear trends this year due to the pandemic. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite legging looks, check em out below.

1. Criss-cross waistband

A crisscross waistband is the one detail that amps up any simple leggings by a notch. Not only it brings more style to your overall look, but they also provide great performance ability and are really the perfect update to standard plain pairs.

2. Knee-length leggings

You're only a few inches of hemline away from embracing one of the coolest legging looks we’ve seen in a long while. Fashion's early adopters are leaning into these capri-length leggings, or as famously being called – "pedal pushers,". We’re totally digging this ‘perfect’ legging length!

3. Neutral leggings

Plain black leggings are useful, timeless, and can never go out of brand racks because of their sheer versatility. Apart from black leggings, there's a new neutral in town. Muted earth tones like moss, mocha, and stone grey are gaining a foothold lately, and they're actually so chic.

4. Ribbed Leggings

Another key detail to look out for when shopping is ribbing. The subtle texture adds an interesting element to leggings and is so comfy you just might turn your back on any other material. Ribbed leggings are also popular for their slimming and elongated-look effect on legs. If you’re able to get your hands on some high-waisted ribbed leggings, you must!

5. Colorful printed leggings

By now we’re sure that you’ve all accepted the fact that leggings are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe both at the gym and for off-duty life. While we’ve consistently seen fashion people and celebrities step out in a variety of neutral leggings with their forward ensembles, there’s a new trend popping up and that’s – brightly colored printed leggings. Try a vibrant pink style with a sweatshirt and white sneakers like J.Lo, or two trends at once by following Rita Ora's lead with short leggings in an eye-catching print.

Of all the fashion trends that the world will remember in 2021, leggings are going to be the one hero item in particular. Last month, the high-end legging trend moved quickly from runways to closets of celebrities and influencers everywhere, just ask the likes of Hailey Bieber and Leonie Hanne. As for those wondering if the craze will fade, not to worry — the luxe leggings takeover is forecasted to stick around till 2022, and fans are rejoicing.
