10 Biggest Color Trends of Fall/Winter 2021

This year, Fall-Winter 2021 runways are truly to fall for. Runways presented grand shows with fashion palettes, painted in essential neutrals, soft pinks, and gradients of gray, as well as head-to-toe black. Wearable, chic, and easy-to-pull-off, these colors are set to dominate the spectrum come Halloween month. Now is the perfect time to start updating your wardrobe with the classic as well as new colors on the block. In this story, we are focusing on the top ten color trends from Fall-Winter 2021 runways to determine which hues will reign supreme for the rest of the year.

For the spoilers: the color palette for Fall/Winter 2021 skews towards our desire for versatile, timeless hues that reflect a less-is-more mindset. Most of the colors on trend charts have a certain timelessness about them that conveys a level of functionality and at the same time lend themselves to unique color statements that stand out.

1. Red Wine

We're no strangers to seeing burgundy and oxblood in fall, and this year, we saw the spectrum of shades from the red family on the runways. From elegant cherry reds to dark wine and robust red hues, these colors were seen on head-to-toe looks in a plethora of textures and fabrics from leather capes to relaxed knits, adding a sophisticated touch to fall ensembles.

2. Celery Green

Remember the leafy plant that is good for your health and is one of the Instagram famous veggies? Yes, we are talking about Celery – but not for your breakfast smoothies this time. The green-yellow shade was a fresh addition to the F/W 2021 runways. It was spotted on tweed skirt suits, silk dresses, and knits especially. The color feels botanical and crisp and will unquestionably add a standout touch to your fall neutrals.

3. Wear Blue to NOT Feel blue

While practically every shade of blue is chic in its own way, this color family is having a major moment on the fall runways this season. Particularly powder blue and deep, bright navy have emerged as winter favorites. The vibrant and bold strong blue hues will really catch the eyes of the onlookers, whether you wear them on your beautiful coats or dresses alike.

4. 50+ Shades of Gray

Gray is having a major moment for winter trends 2021. This neutral hue dominated the runways in head-to-toe looks. The shade came in various fabrics, lengths, and silhouettes, from suits to chunky knits and striking overcoats. The key to looking chic this season is mixing various shades of gray within your ensemble, from darker ash tones to lighter heather shades. If you prefer darker colors, you might love asphalt gray, which is deeper than sleet with a bit of a wicked streak. This shade of gray was all over the Fendi runway. Altuzarra also opened his show with asphalt gray, with a long trench coat as well as a pantsuit with a similar hue.

5. Go Vegan, Go Almond Milk

Designers like Isabel Marant and Dior brought us ‘creamy’ head-to-toe ensembles in off-white shade range. Almond milk, as the fashion police is calling this hue, is essentially a warmer shade of the classic ivory color. Pick your knits in Almond Milk color this season for an elegant, modern, and luxurious look.

6. Sorbet pink

Pink is no longer regarded as just a romantic color among fashion lovers but it is having a  triumphant comeback in striking statement-making sorbet hues this season. Sorbet pink hit the fall 2021 runways in dress, coat, quilted skirt, and even eyewear form. It's a soft and comfortable approach to adding color to your wardrobe.

7. Burnt Red Makes Brick Red

This gorgeous deep red tone is yet another timeless, mature shade for a season of festivities and snow glamour. Enough said – you need to try out the Burnt Red or Ash Red color this season. You really cannot miss (or go wrong with) this one!

8. Magenta+Purple

Some people like Magenta while some like Purple. Magenta is often regarded as a color for the older generation and hence, fashionistas sometimes shy away from this hue. Another reason is, Magenta can be intimidating if you are not about experimental fashion. This brings us to the hue of the season – Magenta Purple. Best of both world in one bold, deep color. It is our personal favorite of the fall 2021 color trends – a tone that exudes glamour and royalty but also holds intrigue, and even a touch of danger.

9. Military Green and Olive

We know you’re not surprised to see the military inspired greens on this trend list. This semi-neutral color has won us over for years and it is such a strong color that wearing it will absolutely add a bit of weight to your step. Designers utilised the military olive green color on everything ranging from satin dresses as well as architectural coats. It seems that the military vibes are strong inside Kendall Jenner’s winter closet as well. She was recently spotted wearing a dress made of patchwork army green panels and a knitted military olive sweater topped with a suede bomber jacket.

10. Rosy tan

Last but not the least – Rosy Tan. Think of this color like a rose that got tanned. Really, no kidding. The Rosy Tan shade is a descendant of the previously heavily popular Dusty Pink hue. This shade is very nearly neutral, with a woodsy feel but distinct feminine energy. It is a color that feels equal parts cozy, and equal parts trendy. This color is as ideal for trench coats, as it is for pearl-embellished cardigans. Warm and sandy, this lovely shade injects the fall/ winter 2021-21 color trends with a bit of comforting lightness. It’s a gentle shade that would fly under the radar in a spring collection, but for the cold seasons, it ends up being quite impactful.

Jacquemus made use of this shade for a long yet tight knitted dress with short sleeves and a polo collar. At Miu Miu, the color felt cheerful in the form of a long, knitted coat that had large tortoiseshell buttons and a rounded collar, which gave it vintage vibes.
