The Ultimate cheat-sheet for Fall/ Winter 2020-2021 Makeup Trends

We have all had endless indoor days this year, that came with all sorts of uncertainties. But, as winter season rises up, so do the festivities and a chance to forget the old, and celebrate fun-filled days. The thing about festivities is that we have extra reasons to dress up (not that we fashionistas need one, right?). The fall-winter 2020 runways presented escapism in the form of makeup trends of all kinds. On the beauty front, the runways brought fantasies to reality and ambitious notions look possible for everyday life.

In New York, Marc Jacobs celebrated the evergreen and classic red lips and black eyeliner combination, while Valentino showed sharp contour lines, to larger than life eyeliner wings. Another theme that got beauty folks’ attention was the resurgence of dark romance and gothic beauty. From Rodarte to Gucci, Valentino to Alexander Mcqueen, luxury brands flaunted Bordeaux lips, floral headpieces as well as punk-leaning dark nails and streaked updos. Prada and Sacai skewed towards raw skin looks with a stark contrast to an array of eyes. Many of us have only been reaching for the concealer and mascara in our beauty bags recently, for a random Friday night indoor dinner or for the endless Zoom meetings. Understandably, it might be hard to imagine getting excited to put on a full face. But whenever the mood strikes to play with makeup again, the fall runways have provided endless inspiration. Check out the 7 top fall makeup 2020 trends ahead.

1. ORANGE EVERYTHING

Knock knock! – who’s this? It’s your black eyeliner and she is tired. Orange is the new black, you might have heard this phrase or – might have seen the Netflix binge-worthy show. So switch things up with this fall 2020 makeup trend. An orange eyeliner adds the right amount of color to your look without being completely overpowering. Depending on your mood, you can try muted orange or a neon orange.
We have seen the classic rose pink blush, to coral blushes. Then we survived mauve and purple hues of blush. But the idea of an orange blush sounds a little bit scary, doesn’t it? But trust us, you can pull off this fall 2020 makeup trend with such an ease that you wouldn’t imagine. Once you pick the right shade of tangy for your skin tone, you'll be left with a glowy, fresh look that adds the perfect amount of depth to your skin. Get your glow on with this fall 2020 makeup trend. Sweep an orange blush on your cheeks, temples, and underneath your brow bones to give yourself a fresh all over flush.

2. EXTRA GLOSSY, EXTRA NUDE EVERYDAY LIPS

This fall 2020 makeup trend is all about shine, as the name suggests. We suggest you start searching for the perfect lip gloss now, before all the best ones are sold out. Work a nude lip liner onto your lips and then layer a gloss on top to get hydrated, smooth, and glossy-AF lips.

3. OVER-THE-TOP EYELINING

Beauty influencers have been rocking this ‘experimental’ look since the last season, and it seems now this has become a must-try global makeup trend. Consider wearing liner and shadow outside the bounds of your lash lines. Especially at Prada, floating rectangles of iridescent shadow gave every model a striking, futuristic vibe. If you're feeling extra (which you should!), experiment with a colored eyeliner and ditch the classic black.

4. GOLDEN GLAM-ORE

Gilded eye make-up is all over Instagram right now. On the runways, Tom Ford’s gold eye shadow looks proved to be jaw-droppers while Gabriela Hearst's abstract glittering gold shapes looked playful and glamourous in equal measure. This makeup trend is like an extension of jewellery.

5. LOWER, THE BETTER

Expect to see the lower line eyeliner everywhere very soon. There’s no color really that doesn’t look amazing on the lower line. Try a creamy blue, white, purple or yellow eyeliner along your waterline, and then coat your upper and lower lashes with black mascara for a super-mod look you'll want to wear constantly.

6. GOTHIC CHIC: HALLOWEEN CAME EARLY

Would it even be a fall makeup trend roundup without a dark lip? Nah! This year, go all out with gloss and shine and skip the matte option for a change. Gloss also helps to give your look some dimension. Top the look off with graphic black eyeliner and some crystals art around your eyebrows or cheeks. There was also a darker side to beauty this season, with gothic influences seen on the catwalks of Anna Sui, Rodarte, Chocheng, Dries van Noten, Max Mara and Haider Ackermann. The most wearable interpretations came in the form of oxblood lipsticks (we’re veering towards this over bleached brows, as modelled by Bella Hadid), which speak to the season beautifully.

7. PURPLE-GREY SMOKEY EYE

New around the makeup trends corner, the purple-grey smokey eye has replaced that black-and-grey smokey eye you wear religiously in the winter. A major upgrade in eye-makeup trends in 2020, the purple eyeshadow trend is all about vibrant color, so don't be afraid to layer a few shades for extra dimension and shine.
