7 Ideas for Ladies' Weekend: Going Beyond Cocktails 'N Convo!

What is there to do on a weekend that goes beyond the “same old, same old”? While you are hanging with your friends to catch up on your daily lives and get some “GF emotional support,” doing dinner and drinks can get boring. Get out of your comfort zone every so often and do the unexpected with your gal-pals! Here are some suggestions (and a couple of them let you replace your workout for the day and save money)!

1. GO HIKING!

Most people live within a hour’s drive to a scenic location. It’s very intimate to go adventuring through nature while catching up with friends—and the wildlife seems to just naturally bring out the honesty and beauty in people. The exercise will also help you clear your head and relax.

2. HAVE A LADIES' MOVIE NIGHT (and you don’t have to show chick flicks)!

Let everyone vote on the movies that they want to see via email or a Facebook before coming over so nobody has to be bored while everyone else is laughing or crying, LOL—have friends bring over their favorite movie snacks as well but you can supply some healthy fare and wine.

3. HAVE A SPA DAY OR NIGHT!

It does not have to be expensive. Your local tried-and-try salon undoubtedly has great mani/pedi and chair massage deals! It’s fun to chat while sitting in vibrating pedi chairs! The Korean late night spa facilities such as Premier 57 in New York offer whirlpools, an amazing array of saunas (including “color therapy”) and special “quiet area” lounges with extra padded chairs in case you want to do absolutely nothing!

4. TAKE A TOUR

Be a tourist and hop onto one of Manhattan’s double decker buses that drive in “loops” all over town. If you live in a suburb, research local tours with historic/scenic themes. Do not worry—no one is going to call you a tourist when you get home!

5. JUST DRIVE

Why not just hop into a car or an SUV with no particular place to go? The conversation might get onto a topic that everyone is enthusiastic about—and you might just end up in the old neighborhood or outlet shopping!

6. TAKE A ONE-TIME CLASS TOGETHER!

Every place has night school or local library where you can take classes on everything from cooking to coding with lots of student participation encouraged. Wine tasting seems to be a favorite amongst Over 30s who just want to chill.

7. CLOSET PURGING/CLOTHING TRADING!

Get together and trade fashion items that might look better on someone else or that you are personally tired of—and be brutally honest. Promise each other that you will throw away items not worn in two years!
