SUNO is a New York-based label with a bottom line worth buying into. After witnessing political violence in Kenya, designer Max Osterweis felt inspired to approach fashion from a radical direction – conscientiously. Together with partner Erin Beatty, they launched SUNO in 2008 as an ethically produced luxury lifestyle brand. They employ artisans from around the globe, adhere to socially responsible standards and support fair-trade, environmentally friendly processes. Their award-winning aesthetic is defined by bold signature prints, fresh silhouettes and imaginative details and has been seen on influential women like Michelle Obama, Kerry Washington and Taylor Swift.
This Season: For Fall-Winter 2016, SUNO takes inspiration from traditionally familiar themes. The brand’s classic prints and detailed embroidery become less central this season, giving way to polychromatic schemes and oversized effects featuring tartan twilled cloth in a multitude of colors and styles. Aspirational and approachable, the well-structured designs lend a playful, eclectic edge to the underlying archetypal styles. A long, robe-like wool coat in dark navy and olive green lends retro-cool vibes with a whimsical, unexpected waist-tie option. Varied shades of navy, gray, and black as well as palette cleansing whites and beige serve as the backdrop for checkers, stripes, and plaid. The boldness of each piece, as demonstrated through exaggerated proportions, tiered ruffles, and quirky color plays bring powerful confidence to the collection. Stripes in varying widths and colors combined with a multitude of textures lend flattering flair. A ribbed-knit sweater top with small eyelet holes makes a statement in black and red with sophistication and flair.
