After the tragic death of troubled artistic genius and creative virtuoso Alexander McQueen, his right-hand woman, Sarah Jane Burton, assumed the role of creative director for McQueen’s eponymous fashion brand. Burton secured her well-deserved position and catapulted to international fame after designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress for her wedding to Prince William in 2011.
Burton’s road to success began shortly after graduation from university in 1997, when she became McQueen's personal assistant, eventually heading womenswear in 2000. A few years later, the lower-priced diffusion line McQ was established, creating bombastic and sensual men's and women's ready-to-wear and accessories. Having worked with McQueen for 14 years, Burton has been slowly transitioning McQ’s aesthetic while continuing to push the boundaries of institutionalized traditions and beliefs through fashion.

lookbook
For Fall 2016, McQ’s incorporates elements of street wear grunge, with a heavy inclusion of leather and lace. Draped and elongated everything from pants, tops, and coats are complemented with printed shirts and bulky knits. Oversized proportions exude powerful but elegant and refined sophistication with acute attention to detail. Young, unconventional with an underlying rebellious eccentricity, the collection also, rather expectedly, blends in mature and traditional features such as bespoke pinstripes and single-breasted jackets.
Primarily in shades black and gray fabrics that embrace and immerse, the McQ line-up lightens the look and feel by revealing some skin, exposing legs, shoulders, and arms with deep slits, mesh fabrics, and webbed skirts. The collection is a conglomeration of intense passion for renegade individuality and subculture diversity.
