Tanya Taylor burst into the fashion arena in 2012 with her namesake line and the label’s colorful, expressive designs have been highly sought after ever since. At a young age, her propensity for creative exploration developed under her mother and grandmother’s artistic tutelage during regular arts and crafts sessions at home. Armed with degrees in finance from McGill University and fashion from the Parsons New School of Design, Taylor got her real-world fashion experience working for Elizabeth and James. After two years as an assistant designer, the young designer established her eponymous label at the age of 25.

The line justifies its casual-luxury price point through the use of custom fabrics. Developed through close collaboration with French and Italian mills, each season’s print-heavy collection tells a unique story. Taylor and her team’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed; the inimitable line was nominated for the prestigious CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund in 2014 and, in 2015, Taylor received the womenswear Woolmark Prize for innovation and dexterity with wool. Major retailers have also taken note and the brand is carried at a growing number of stores, including Saks, Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman, and Nordstrom. Loyal patrons include first lady Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, and Beyoncé Knowles.

Using bright colours interspersed with bold floral and geometric patterns as the backdrop, crisp, clean structures dominate the Spring-Summer 2016 collection. The collection is full of aesthetically pleasing feminine pieces, including jumpsuits, skirts, dresses, and flowy separates. Vertical and horizontal stripes as well as off-shoulder numbers are recurring themes. The mostly colorful line up also features refreshing neutral items such as a stunning cropped button-down top, paired with a form-fitting beige vest and A-line skirt in resplendent shades of off-white.
