5 winter makeup looks to try right now, inspired by the fall 2020 runways

TREND / 2019-10-30

Artsy, bewitching, and a little bit spooky – these are not just the best adjectives to describe the months of October-November, but also the fall/ winter 2020 makeup trends. This year, we saw some fascinating runway themes on the set as well on the model’s faces. With diverse and memorable fashion shows, the beauty trends of 2020 catwalks saw the return of some beauty classics like smoky eyes and red lips. Along with that, there were many makeup trends from the 60s and 80s, with modern twists. For the experimental makeup ninjas, graphic elements, colored patches, glitter sprinklings and more were seen too. On the most wearable side of the fall-winter 2020 makeup trends, we saw angelic dewy skin, a hint of bronzer, loads of blush, as well as just a flush of blush, and lots of different techniques for doing your eyebrows. The super-strong statement-making brows are out, while extra fluffy lashes are in.

Just as a pair of leather boots can transform your fall outfits, these makeup looks make a serious statement. Whatever is it that you like to put a face on with, find your favorite in IFCHIC’s round-up of the top 5 make-up trends to try now.

1. Red lips

Red lips are a huge trend right now. Wait, did we ever stop wearing red lip or needed validation for it? Not really. Yet, velvety red lips were a firm feature on the autumn/winter runways. This timeless, bold beauty staple was generally paired with polished glossy skin and no-makeup looks. The statement red lip is a failsafe trick for simple sophistication and oozing vintage glamour. This fall, red lipstick is more like your weapon to express your sensuality. Other than the crimsons and carmine shade, deep burgundies were also seen. As for texture, highly pigmented ultra-matte pout seemed to be the most worn.

2. Graphic Eyes

Experimental eye make-up this year speaks of retro-meets-futuristic. Remember the famous Twiggy liner? Well, it’s been a while since we revisited it and the time has come. Floating flicks were seen at numerous designer’s shows. Crisp cat-eye got some serious dramatic upgrade with wings that go out about half an inch.

Graphic eyes date back to the ‘60s mod eye makeup era. Many MUAs created drool-worthy eye looks for the runway collections. Artist Peter Phillips created an exaggerated look for Dior, by drawing thick vertical lines under the lower lash line. Makeup at Giambattista Valli had artistic appliqués that looked very ‘60s cinema inspired.

3. Unexpected Pops of Color

We’ve seen bizarre trends in the past like colorful eyebrows and colorful armpits! (yes, you read it right). Thanks to sanity, we’ve moved on from those trends and this fall, we have colorful eyeshadow or eyeliner as a quick and easy way to add some playfulness to any look. We’re talking about some serious fashion playfulness here via small yet impactful uses of colorful eyeshadow. For example, you can use a bright eyeshadow that hovers just above the crease in the outer corner of the eye, or, a bit of neon pink eyeshadow that is blended into the outer corner of the eye, above a bit of a regular winged black eyeliner.

Take cues from Priyanka Chopra Jonas and swap your black liner for a sleek swipe of blue to brighten the eyes.

4. Neutral Smokey Eye

Smokey eyes were back on the fall fashion week map this year, but of course, with a twist. Instead of black, smokey eyes this year featured neutral earthy shades like caramel and light brown. Not just on the eyes, cheeks and lips are also seen featuring a softer monotone palette that oozes an understated elegance. We think this trend has certainly breathed new life into the black smokey eye. A wash of brown or taupe eyeshadow doubles up as eye contour, giving a bit of definition in a subtle manner. It can have an incredible eye-opening effect as well. The most iconic smokey eyes were observed on Diane Kendal at Tom Ford, which was crafted through careful layering of brown eyeliner, mauve eyeshadow, and clear gloss. Paps also snapped some understated smokey eye looks at Elie Saab, and Paco Rabanne.

5. Ulta Dewy skin and glossy lips

Dewy skin that looks healthy is basically at the heart of all the other winter makeup trends this year. How to achieve a super dewy look, you ask? Well, the first step is to use minimal makeup (and drink lots and lots of water!). Keep things simple with just concealer, lip balm, a light dab of peach blush, and a hint to mascara. Dewy lips in real skin shades were all over the catwalks. To achieve dewy lips, all the answers lead to one answer – lipgloss!. It’s time to replace your gooey and sloppy glosses with modern make-up formulas that feel nourishing and lightweight. A no-makeup look with glossy natural-looking lips is undeniably sexy. Notes were taken – fresh skin is always in!
