Melania Trump's outfits as the First Lady

America’s first lady, Melania Trump is the wife to POTUS (President of the United States), Donald Trump. A former model, and mother to her son Barron, Mrs. Trump’s wardrobe is often the talk of the paparazzi due to her distinctive style that sharply differs from those of her First Lady predecessors. FLOTUS often chooses European labels over the American ones for her wardrobe. Her outfit choices often call for a public cry for being one of the most controversial and expensive ones in First Lady history.

Melania has been spotted in some very chic designer ensembles regularly, but her style has evolved a lot since Donald Trump became the US President in January 2017 as she took on the role of First Lady

The credit for Melania’s impeccable outfits goes to her Washington DC based stylist Naina Singla. Her stylist revealed that Melania loves monochromes and vibrant colors both. Sheath dresses and silhouettes that accentuate her waistline are her favorites too. Melania Trump's style has become more refined, elegant and polished since she became the first lady. She doesn’t wear super conservative clothes, like many of the preceding first ladies and other royalties have chosen to. Although, her political-royal style is more conservative compared to what she wore in the past. In her younger days, Melania has been seen wearing form-fitting dresses and plunging necklines to babydoll dresses and mini skirts. The First lady now prefers pants over shorter hemlines to look more professional.

We have curated some of the best looks where you will be able to see notable differences between her then and nowadays style.

Some of her best looks from 2019

Melania was wearing Alexa Chung's knee length leather coat to welcome the Prime Minister & his wife Monika Babišová of the Czech Republic.

This look could remain Melania’s most controversial look of the year 2019. In a recent trip to Kenya, she wore a men’s-style black-belted off-white colored trousers, paired with a white shirt, black tie and double-breasted jacket. Notice that black-banded fedora on her head? That’s the accessory in her outfit that caused a lot of hullabaloo in the media. The hat is actually in the shape of the pith helmet which is significant in Africa and Asia. It was widely worn by European colonial armies and had also become common civilian wear for Westerners in the tropics by the 19th century. Hence, it is considered by many as a symbol of colonial oppression.

Some of Melania Trump’s best looks from 2018

Melania was a popular fashion model during her modeling days, but since her husband Donald John Trump, began his presidency as the US President in 2017, Mrs. Trump has been spending much of her time attending important events and promoting campaigns. With fast evolving fashion and personal preferences in today’s times, it’s no surprise that the 48-year-old First Lady has majorly altered her fashion aesthetic in recent years.

This is what FLOTUS wore when the First Lady of Kenya visited the White House in 2018. A yellow floral midi skirt skirt with a sleeveless blush pink top and matching pumps made her look finely chic.

Melania Trump’s most talked-about outfit of 2017 was seen during the 2017 G7 Summit in Sicily. She stepped out in a Dolce & Gabbana embroidered jacket worth $70,000. The price tag was enough to cause a tittle-tattle that soon turned into a controversy.

Much like the former First Lady Michelle Obama, Melania Trump is a fan of the designer known as Delpozo. Melania wore a $2,650 Delpozo color-blocked dress in July 2017 during her overseas travels. The midi dress with bright colors got a big reaction for obvious reasons. But this outfit proves how much Melania loves  calf-length sleeveless dresses
