What to wear to the next spring wedding?

COVER STORY / 2020-01-29

Once spring officially kicks off, we’re betting your social calendar will start filling up with weddings. And if you are a guest at a springtime wedding, or more than one, you have plenty of options, now that the latest collections have hit your favourite stores! We suggest injecting some playful colour, like cheery marigold and sweet pastel pink, or flirty patterns, such as florals, into your wedding-day attire, to really nail that spring wedding look.

Shopping for a spring wedding ensemble can be delightfully easy-if you do it right. Stores start stocking up on spring attire as early as January (they want you to have options!), and if you're as excited to shed your winter wear as we are, you'll be more than excited at the site of pastels, airy fabrics, and florals. This year you'll find that silk, slip dresses, yellow, colour blocks- from vivid magentas to striking red- to polka dots, and one-shoulder silhouettes will be at the top of every wedding guest's shopping list. So what are you waiting for? Don your shopping hats cause it’s time to kick off some serious wedding shopping!

GREEK-GODDESS

Pull off some envy-worthy greek goddess looks, or a more bohemian look with an uptown vibe. Add some luxury factors to avoid soft, slinky styles from going too boho–like sparkling add-ons and rich textures.

VIBRANT VIBES

Choose vibrant jewel tones and pops of color for daytime dressing in spring for a look that's bound to stand out from the pack. Rather than jumping into summer too quickly, mix in the rich fabrications most associated with the cooler months–like velvet and exotic skins–to take a day dress from too-casual to warm-weather cocktails.

FLORAL POWER

So spring is right around the corner and we suggest you take the theme of the season literally when dressing for warm weather weddings. You cannot go wrong with pastels at celebrations that will most likely take place outdoors, and softer colors always feel right for parties that are pre-summer. Come July, you'll likely want to sport brights. Welcome these changing seasons with a power suit by pairing up the look with bold colors; then, add some edge to avoid looking too girly.

BOHO-GIRL

Channel the '70s or a freer spirited vibe if petite bloom prints and overly feminine florals aren't your thing. Draw out the bolder tones of your print with accessories to avoid sticking to pastel hues that, to you, may seem too saccharine. If you're aiming for a look with this strong a point of view, don't stray from your theme when it comes to the extras–abstract prints, feathers, and tassels all drive home a playful vibe that's more sultry than sweet.

THAT BOLD RED

Channel the love in the air with bold shades of rouge that speak to the heart emojis you've likely been using to accessorize your captions about the couple. A structured jumpsuit with gold accessories and an ultra strappy sandal make jewel tones feel apropos for warmer weather.

STARRY NIGHT

Looking for a motif that doesn't feel as femme as little blooms or as bold as a tropical print? Celestial details have a dreamy quality that evokes a bohemian whimsy while still feeling sophisticated.

LIKE A DISCO BALL

Dazzle on the dance floor in flirty silhouettes that feel celebratory year round–not just on New Year's Eve. Avoid the over the top look and stick with some monochrome shades and mix it up with a midi sexy sandle, sort of in an old fashioned way.
