For decades Jerry Hall and Jane Birkin have mesmerized us with their larger-than-life public personas and distinctive styles. Occupying opposite ends of the fashion spectrum – with Birkin representing the nominally nonchalant and Hall epitomizing the deliberately glamorous – their lasting influence on contemporary styles of clothing, hair, and behavior has been visionary. Today, Birkin and Hall have seen their progeny go on to become style icons in their own right. Collectively, the mother-daughter duos show us why life is a lot more fun when we stop trying to be perfect.
Jane Birkin and Lou Doillon
With a mother whose name is associated with the famous Hermes handbag, Lou Doillon’s scruffy-chic style embodies her Birkin’s casual-cool aesthetic and disillusionment with the media’s pursuit of beauty (Birkin is known to not wear makeup). Says Doillon, "French style has got to do with a certain form of arrogance, which I love. French girls have a tremendous respect for themselves in a way, and so they have what they want to wear, and what they won't wear-even if every magazine cover is saying, ‘This is what you should be wearing.’” Her sister, singer-actress Charlotte Gainsbourg echoes this sentiment: “Style for me is a casual way of putting something on. It's not thought out but needs to suit your way of life.”

Jerry Hall and Georgia May Jagger
As the youngest daughter of Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger and the statuesque Jerry Hall, Georgia May Jagger has never been a stranger to fashion. Instead of following the latest trends, Jagger stays true to herself when outfitting her wardrobe: “Invest in things you instinctively like and that’s how you develop your own personal style, rather than just buying things you think you should be liking.”
Like her iconic mother, the 24-year old Jagger doesn't aim for perfection, opting to not fix her now famous tooth-gap: “There's this whole idea of perfection in modeling. It's good for people to realize everyone is human.”
